Certified Communities Application and Renewal Deadline Approaching
September 12th, 2008 has been set as the deadline for communities interested in the application for, or renewal of, their status in the Certified Communities Initiative Program (CCI). Up to ten communities may be certified for 2008. Since all communities can not be visited by each individual member of the Economic Development Commission decision making team, the successful completion of all application criteria is of the upmost importance. Communities granted certification will be announced October 1-3, 2008, at the Governor’s Summit on Economic Development. The CCI seeks to assist communities in taking control of their economic futures through the encouragement of recruitment, creation, retention and expansion of jobs. CCI works in conjunction with the New Mexico Economic Development Department, as well as the New Mexico Partnership, to meet these goals. The initiative program embraces the needs of each individual community to help determine the best way to create new employment. Thus, as the community strives to meet their unique needs, they empower their citizens, develop existing resources, and ultimately create sustained economic success and civic pride.
The NM Economic Development Department has scheduled five training sessions on the Local Economic Development Act (LEDA). The training will include an overview of the statute, discussion of projects using LEDA and sample forms.
This training is mandatory for new communities applying for participation in the Certified Communities Initiative Program and communities applying for re-certification under the Certified Communities Initiative Re-Certification Program.
